Yesterday, Miley Cyrus took to  her Twitter account to announce the news that her beloved two-year-old Yorkie, Lila, has gone to the rainbow bridge. It’s still unclear what caused her death. This news happens just days after Kim Kardashian was mourning the loss of her tea cup Persian kitten, Mercy, who passed away Dec. 7. Mercy passed away from complications from a cancer-like virus that usually stems from breeding. We took the girls shopping at Petsmart over the weekend. I wanted to get a sweater for Tink because Michigan winter will be here soon and she already shivers in the morning. It makes it hard for her to potty when she is that cold. I realized something - dog clothes are expensive which is why I made an attempt to make clothes for her myself.

After watching a ton of videos on YouTube and reading tutorials on websites I decided to go outside and brave the cold to find some sweaters we had in the garage sale. I have some patterns, but I am too lazy at the end of the day to drag out the sewing machine. This sweater was made out of a human sweater sleeve and no sewing. It was all done with a hot glue gun. I found a lot of people doing "no-sew" dog clothes on YouTube. It wasn't bad for my first time. I had a few spots where the glue got on the sweater. You should sew the leg holes so they don't unravel or rip. I'll be making more clothing for Tinkerbell, so keep checking back.

After months and months of waiting, praying, and praying some more, we finally have a new addition to our family. This is "Tink" (yes, short for Tinkerbell) and she is about 9 weeks old. She is a Chug. Part Pug part  Chihuahua.   I was looking at rescues, adoption centers, Craigslist, newspapers and various other places people post dogs. Every time we found one we liked it had issues with other dogs or cats. Then I couldn't decide if I wanted an older dog for Casey, or a puppy.

Casey : The New Guard Dog on Duty Yesterday Casey was sworn in as the new guard dog on duty of the McConnell household. As you can see - today she is more than thrilled to start her day with her new title. Casey hanging out in the office with me.

These pet food samples were unlike anything I had ever seen. They were dried and needed to be mixed with water. It felt a bit like the type of food you would pack for backpacking trips. Apparently Casey liked the smell because as soon as I opened the plastic she came running to the kitchen. You know the cutest thing? lil m has been talking about how she no longer wants to be a nurse like grammie but she wants to be a vet so she can cure the cancer in pets ! She rocks! She has been telling everyone this! It has been a constant thing since Cain passed away. I just had to share that. I am sure, her being only 7 she will change her mind a million times about what she wants to do in life but for her to understand and comprehend what a vet does to help animals makes me so proud of her. I bought her a couple of kids vet books to let her know I will support her and she can do anything she sets her mind to. For Christmas I think the Barbie we get her will be the "I can be a.." series doll in the vet. I recently found the "I can be..." a track star at Goodwill brand new in box for $8. I am sorry I have not been very good about updating this website. Cains memory lives on very strong in my life and there are times when missing him completely controls me. He was my "baby," my "son" and he was so important in my life for so many reasons. We had some friends over a few weekends back and their daughter said "I thought you had two dogs?" and lil m replied with "Oh, we did. He died. The cancer got him." And then she went over to the toy box and picked up his favorite monkey and started to talk about how sad she was. Not wanting our company to feel awkward, at least not the daughter, I came to the rescue with my chatter about how he is playing in Gods yard, cancer free. Casey has some good days and some bad days. This past week she has been extremely mopey. She'll go outside and just lay where Cain used to lay. Just wants to lay there and do nothing. Over the weekend she was at my moms while Big M and I were out of town. My mo

 it was cleaning time over the weekend. mumma finally decided to move our cages. then daddy and little human started to clean the living room. lil human thought it was so much fun she vacuumed her room like a big girl all by herself. mumma was so happy she cleaned her room. we spent the day at the park.

Mumma and daddy made me go for a walk this morning. I tried hunting for these Easter egg things but I could not find any. I guess all the kids found them yesterday when they had the kid hunt at the park. Mumma said we walked 3.8 miles. I am sure tired. I hope you guys had a fun Easter and found some of those egg things. ~casey

A few days before Cain had passed away he must have had a chill because he was shivering. It was not like a seizure shake. It was rather chilly in our house. I remember Big M grabbing his sweater to put on him and me telling him not to. I just did not want Cain to freak out. Big M did not listen and when I came around the corner, this is what I saw. I had asked for a photo but I never saw him take it. When I was scrolling through the photos on my phone - this is what I found.

Today marks three weeks exactly to the day I lost my precious Cain. Life at home has been hard without Cain. The house is so silent. Sometimes I think I can hear his tags rattle as he walks through the house. I turn around and Casey is sleeping by my side so I know it's not her. I know we both miss him. Every once in a while she searches the house as if to be looking for him. Since the passing of Cain she has not slept in her house out in the living room. I might be to blame. I still have both kennels up. It's been hard to say good-bye to Cain so I have not removed his "room" and I know Casey does not want to be alone. I tried the first night he was gone with no success. She will sleep as close to me as possible. Not her usual behavior. She tries to be happy and play but it is short-lived. She mostly sleeps all day. She must feel awful lonely. I put her bed in the office with me but she would rather sleep on the couch. I can't always work out in the living r

i am not the biggest fan of that cat, ziggy. he is just crazy the way he runs around the house all spazzy. i think that's why mom called him ziggy. ziggy. ha. should be called zippy the way he zips around. ziggy has slept with mom every night since she brought him home.

i always tell mom not to watch these videos when she is supposed to be working. it just makes her sad and her face gets all wet. i had to snuggle with her with the hopes that she would understand that i would help her tell the world that all edie needed was a hug. (and a bath). i wish mom and i could do more for furkids like me. i don't like how their parents just drop them off and never come back for them.

When I think of obese, I don't really think about pets. I tend to call them "fat" even though I hate that word for human purposes. My friend Matt at Pet365 created this brilliant graphic some time ago and I am sorry that I am just now getting around to sharing it with you. Like everything else, I got pushed to the back burner when Cain got really sick. ( sort of like yesterdays post ) Now that he is gone I am making sure that Casey is healthy and with us as long as she can be. Mr. Chewy saves the day! I've been sitting on this $50 gift certificate that Mr. Chewy gave me for quite some time (oh, let's see...since...Jan 30th). I had planned on ordering the furkids some new food and treats but since we keep the food in a large garbage can out in the garage and no where to store a bag of food without someone trying to get in to it, I opted to wait until their was room in the storage can for it. And then......

lil m visits every weekend. mom, dad and lil m were all playing this Lego things and they never let me play! but during the play time lil m found an old red "baby" that Cain had for a very long time. silly Cain chewed the arm right off that baby. i always laughed when Cain played with that baby. big tough Cain with this still red squeaky baby. i think mom got a little sad too. lil m went away for a minute and came back out with this drawing she made. she asked mom if she could bury it with Cain and that we should bury his baby with him too. mom said it was fine with her. lil m smiled and then went back to her room. mom went to see why she had not come out some time later and i followed. lil m had a red wet face. mom told dad that she was very upset about Cain, to take me outside to potty and that she would take care of lil m.

The vet sent us a card. In the card was a bookmark with this poem on the back: Until we meet at  the Rainbow Bridge you will be forever in my heart. In memory of your beloved pet and unconditional best friend. ~Author Unknown~

Mom had to tell lil m over the weekend that Cain had passed away while she was gone (she lives with her mom far away and we only get to see her on the days mom and dad call Saturday and Sunday). She cried and then mom told her Cain went to go live with God. She seemed ok after that. Shes a good little person. I heard mom tell dad a story this morning and she took a picture. There is this place in town that puts these little plastic toys on the desserts. Lil m forgot hers over the weekend so dad ran back in to get them. Lil m took the gorilla and put it in moms curio cabinet where she had put Cains collar last week. Mom turned around and saw lil m kiss the collar before guarding it with the gorilla. What a good girl. Afterwards, mom and I went to see Dr.Buck to pick up Cain.

So mom thought it would be a good idea if I took over Cains blog. I have my own stories to tell. In case you missed it, my 8 year old brother Cain passed away last week. Tuesday. On Thursday we had a visitor. Pudge. Pudge is a 5 year old English Bulldog. His dad is in the same band as mine.  He is really short, really fat, and really funny. Mom kept saying he was funky because he would toot all the time, grumble when he walked, and then he would gasp for air and you were left wondering when the alien was going to come out of his mouth. Ever saw the movie Aliens? I did. Freaked me out forever.

Saying good-bye is never an easy thing, but it is something I was forced to do this morning. I knew this day would come and I even tried to mentally prepare myself. When Cain started to have his seizures we knew Boxers were prone to brain tumors and cancer. That was the reality I was faced with. Cancer can be an evil bitch as I have seen her take away so many people and furkids that were close to me. Cain's seizures started to get worse. Instead of head tremors they were turning in to full body, muscle spasm tremors. He was drinking more, eating less and peeing every 30 minutes.

mumma got new furniture the other day. we were not really sure what to think of it. casey my silly sister was the first to make herself comfy. it took me a couple of days, but it sure is cozy. i can get used to this.
