Moving On

Image
Source: Photobucket Hello everyone, I have good news, and some bad. Good news - we are moving! I have a pet section on my site, YUM eating that I feel is better suited and will give Ziggy, The Fish, Tink and Casey a lot more attention. Since launching YUM eating it has been hard to keep up with so many smaller sites. Since we don't have very many readers here or subscribers and have the potential to reach a wider audience with the other site. I've also been contacted through YUM about some great pet opportunities, so there's that too. It has also been hard to keep up with Cains Tales since the passing of Cain. It almost seems pointless to keep a blog about a dog we no longer have even though his spirit very much lives on here at our home. I tried to make it work, trust me! I doubt we will ever get another dog or pet with the name unless we adopt or foster a dog which has already been named. Even then, I'm not sure the pet blogging niche is my forte. But

Ear Cropping Boxers Dogs

Think about this for a minute . How about I take a medical knife or a pair of medical scissors and freely cut off a section of your ears. No pain killers, no nothing. It would leave you looking a bit like Spock. And then, we tape them. You can not remove them under any circumstances. As a matter of fact, you can not even scratch them when they itched; doing so could cause damage.

Dogs in Apartments with no Yards or Pet Parks

Image
Should a person have a dog in an apartment which does not have ample yard or a dog park? The answer is probably not. I want you to put yourself in the dogs' position for just one moment. Apartments by average scale are small. Dogs, no matter what size need ample room to run around in. Not only that, dogs need rays of sunshine just as humans do. Humans need that Vitamin D the sun provides and dogs are no different. Locking them in an apartment all day is not healthy mentally or physically for dog.

Chewy arrived again. We love Chewy at our house. We know when that box arrives someone is going to be very happy. This months review is for Natural Balance Platefuls co-founded by "Eight is Enough" Dick Van Patten.

We Review: Orijen Tundra Freeze-Dried Dog Food

Image
First I have to tell you, I am a big do-do and while I read the package a hundred time "freeze-dried" dog food just did not sink in. I mean, it did. But when I opened the package and went "Oh! A cookied!" It did not dawn on me that I would have to prepare these little cookies in a special way before the girls could eat them.

We Review: Orijen Ranch Raised Lamb Singles Freeze-Dried Dog Treats

(C) Chrystal Mahan We Review: Orijen Ranch Raised Lamb Singles Freeze-Dried Dog Treats We approve! Mom has been working with me on my blogging skills since I have had to take over for Cain. We miss him very much still and I tell Tink stories about my brother all the time. He was the best big brother ever. Mr. Chewy came to visit us again. This time he dropped off a soggy box. It wasn't Mr. Chewy's fault. Mr. UPS decided that this week he was going to use our front door to leave our package even though it's blocked off and we never use the front door. Mr. UPS must have been new. The box got left in the rain. Mr. Chewy was wondering where his review was and mom was wondering where the box was. When her and dad left to go in the car, mom saw the box as they were driving past the house. She raised her voice when talking to dad so me and Tink could tell she was mad.

Wordless Wednesday: Tink the Attack Dog!

Video 1 is Tink going crazy and Casey trying to hide...and me talking. Wait till you see what she's barking at. Video 2 was filmed a mere minutes after the first.

Wordless Wednesday: Oh, Tink! What did you do?

We tested: PetMatrix SmartSticks and SmartChips, Yum!

Tink was so excited to be able to do her first review. Although she is still pretty little, the Peanut Butter Smart Chips were perfect for her because they were a bit smaller. Casey, she chews on it for a minute and it is gone. Might be best for smaller dogs, not 75 pound boxers!

Poor Little Tink - Yesterday Her Whole World Changed (photos!)

Image
Poor little Tink. Yesterday her whole little world changed. She has been to the vet twice since we got her; she is only 6 months old. Her first was for her to meet the vet and the techs as well as get another booster shot. She received her first rounds with the folks we got her from. She was then seen a few weeks later for another check-up and booster. Now that she is 6 months, she's ready for her 6 month booster pack and for her spaying (is that even a word?). So, yesterday morning I took her in. Casey went along because she too needed her yearly boosters done and some grooming. Tink was not happy that I left without her. She was also micro-chipped. I am not taking any chanced with her. She's small and she's quick. I fear she may get away from me someday. Hopefully she will learn just like Cain and Casey did that it's pointless to run away from home.

Cain: One Year Ago Today

Image
RIP Cain  November 4, 2003  to Febuary 7, 2012 It was one year ago today I had to say goodbye to my beloved Cain . I remember the day like it was yesterday. I have yet to bury Cains ashes in the cemetery with  my grandparents. I'm just not ready to let go. I just want to keep him with me. So, I am going to spend some time today looking at pet urns and perhaps changing him from his tin box to a nice wooden one with some engraving.  I've also decided to buy a bamboo plant in his honor and plan to do that when he gets home tonight. I don't have to worry about the weather and I don't have to worry about it dying. It will live on forever, just like Cain's memory.

Cain's One Year

Image
We are coming up on the one year anniversary of Cain's passing. I wanted to do something, but I am not sure what. I thought about planting a tree. February in Michigan might not be the ideal time to do any planting. So I thought maybe an indoor plant would be nice. Maybe we could plant it outside when the weather became warmer. My only problem with that is we hope to move next year when we are both done with school (I should be done this year!). I want something I can take with me; something that won't have a high risk of dying.
