My Pet's Tales

Hello everyone! I keep saying I am going to dust off this space and do something with it, but it is just so hard. I still miss Cain so much and I leave the site so that I am able to share his memory. But, that is not what I came here to write about.

After watching a ton of videos on YouTube and reading tutorials on websites I decided to go outside and brave the cold to find some sweaters we had in the garage sale. I have some patterns, but I am too lazy at the end of the day to drag out the sewing machine. This sweater was made out of a human sweater sleeve and no sewing. It was all done with a hot glue gun. I found a lot of people doing "no-sew" dog clothes on YouTube. It wasn't bad for my first time. I had a few spots where the glue got on the sweater. You should sew the leg holes so they don't unravel or rip. I'll be making more clothing for Tinkerbell, so keep checking back.

After months and months of waiting, praying, and praying some more, we finally have a new addition to our family. This is "Tink" (yes, short for Tinkerbell) and she is about 9 weeks old. She is a Chug. Part Pug part  Chihuahua.   I was looking at rescues, adoption centers, Craigslist, newspapers and various other places people post dogs. Every time we found one we liked it had issues with other dogs or cats. Then I couldn't decide if I wanted an older dog for Casey, or a puppy.

Casey : The New Guard Dog on Duty Yesterday Casey was sworn in as the new guard dog on duty of the McConnell household. As you can see - today she is more than thrilled to start her day with her new title. Casey hanging out in the office with me.

These pet food samples were unlike anything I had ever seen. They were dried and needed to be mixed with water. It felt a bit like the type of food you would pack for backpacking trips. Apparently Casey liked the smell because as soon as I opened the plastic she came running to the kitchen. I let the sample sit with a cup of warm water for about 30 minutes to make sure the product had enough time to mix. I fed it to Casey. The first sample she tried was Beef Feast. 

You know the cutest thing? lil m has been talking about how she no longer wants to be a nurse like grammie but she wants to be a vet so she can cure the cancer in pets ! She rocks! She has been telling everyone this! It has been a constant thing since Cain passed away. I just had to share that. I am sure, her being only 7 she will change her mind a million times about what she wants to do in life but for her to understand and comprehend what a vet does to help animals makes me so proud of her. I bought her a couple of kids vet books to let her know I will support her and she can do anything she sets her mind to. For Christmas I think the Barbie we get her will be the "I can be a.." series doll in the vet. I recently found the "I can be..." a track star at Goodwill brand new in box for $8. Its tucked away nicely. I don't really buy her a lot of Barbie dolls because she has so many. But I will get her 1 or 2 and then buy clothes and accessories for the ones s...

I am sorry I have not been very good about updating this website. Cains memory lives on very strong in my life and there are times when missing him completely controls me. He was my "baby," my "son" and he was so important in my life for so many reasons. We had some friends over a few weekends back and their daughter said "I thought you had two dogs?" and lil m replied with "Oh, we did. He died. The cancer got him." And then she went over to the toy box and picked up his favorite monkey and started to talk about how sad she was. Not wanting our company to feel awkward, at least not the daughter, I came to the rescue with my chatter about how he is playing in Gods yard, cancer free. Casey has some good days and some bad days. This past week she has been extremely mopey. She'll go outside and just lay where Cain used to lay. Just wants to lay there and do nothing. Over the weekend she was at my moms while Big M and I were out of town. My mo...

A few days before Cain had passed away he must have had a chill because he was shivering. It was not like a seizure shake. It was rather chilly in our house. I remember Big M grabbing his sweater to put on him and me telling him not to. I just did not want Cain to freak out. Big M did not listen and when I came around the corner, this is what I saw. I had asked for a photo but I never saw him take it. When I was scrolling through the photos on my phone - this is what I found.

Today marks three weeks exactly to the day I lost my precious Cain. Life at home has been hard without Cain. The house is so silent. Sometimes I think I can hear his tags rattle as he walks through the house. I turn around and Casey is sleeping by my side so I know it's not her. I know we both miss him. Every once in a while she searches the house as if to be looking for him. Since the passing of Cain she has not slept in her house out in the living room. I might be to blame. I still have both kennels up. It's been hard to say good-bye to Cain so I have not removed his "room" and I know Casey does not want to be alone. I tried the first night he was gone with no success. She will sleep as close to me as possible. Not her usual behavior. She tries to be happy and play but it is short-lived. She mostly sleeps all day. She must feel awful lonely. I put her bed in the office with me but she would rather sleep on the couch. I can't always work out in the living r...

When I think of obese, I don't really think about pets. I tend to call them "fat" even though I hate that word for human purposes. My friend Matt at Pet365 created this brilliant graphic some time ago and I am sorry that I am just now getting around to sharing it with you. Like everything else, I got pushed to the back burner when Cain got really sick. ( sort of like yesterdays post ) Now that he is gone I am making sure that Casey is healthy and with us as long as she can be. Mr. Chewy saves the day! I've been sitting on this $50 gift certificate that Mr. Chewy gave me for quite some time (oh, let's see...since...Jan 30th).
