Update on Cain

Yesterday I made a post on my other website about Cain, and how things change in an instant. I reposted it here on this blog.

I have had this site set up for Cain for some months now, only it was for a completely different reason.

This is one of the projects I had that were waiting on me to graduate so that I had more time to spend on it. The YouTube channel is already set up.

I purchased the domain this morning, so I will set that up later today. I just wanted to get this post updated and out of the way.

The original idea around this website and the YouTube channel was to target pet lovers. Big M does great impressions and all of the animals in our house have their own voice. To hear him voice over Cain, Casey and Ziggy is pretty funny and I know it is something pet lovers can appreciate. Right now I only have a handful of videos that have voices. The rest I recorded with no voice so M has to add the voices.

That plan remains the same. However, it now has a new meaning.

Cain went to the vet this morning. Cain has anti seizure meds (Phenobarbital) to take 2X a day. He goes back in a month for a check-up.

Because they are not really certain what is causing the seizures she (the vet) wants me to take him down to the veterinary hospital for an MRI. Boxers are cancerous dogs, especially in the brain. Seizures are common in older dogs. She dig give him his senior wellness test and everything came back just fine. So even though that is positive, there obviously is an underlying problem as to why he is having seizures.  Since his tests came back good and clean, the worry is that his issue is within his brain or someplace in his body we can’t see.

Hence the need for the MRI.

The problems could be
  • ·         true epilepsy
  • ·         brain infections
  • ·         degenerative conditions of brain tissue
  • ·         water on the brain
  • ·         brain tumors
  • ·         stroke like conditions
  • ·         blood clots in the brain

The MRI is going to cost $5000 or more. So, I am going to have to do the grassroots method of raising money for my poor dog. Going to set up a donation page (somehow), get connected to the boxer rescues and some of these other pet establishments that offer grants and stuff to people that need medical help with their animals. I figure the money from the ad revenue on YouTube could go for the fund, as well as from this website and the donations. I guess I need to look for some affiliates, too.

Obviously that is going to take some time. So if anyone knows a quick method to starting, I am open for all tips!

This sucks, I am not going to lie.  I just don’t know what else to do.

So Casey doesn't feel left out, here is a pic of her.

  1. They are both beautiful. There is not always a clear path between seizure and cause. Knowing the cause does not always indicate a difference in treatment. I wish you well as you move forward in this journey. Your dog is blessed to have someone who loves him so much as he moves forward through this challenge.

  2. Thank you! I am just taking it one step/day at a time and making sure he is treated the best I can treat him.

  3. You need to call around and check on that. I called a place and they only charge $1700. So.... You may want to check into that price that the vet told you. Cathy took her dog to Ann Arbor for a rare test and it only cost her $2500 and they had to have a specialist for it. Just check around...

  4. I've got people working on it for me. Either way, he has monthly meds, there will be travel time, special diet food, monthly vet costs, the MRI, and so on. I have a friend trying to set something up at MSU where he took his boxers and paid nothing.
